Students can not choose classes they have already had Some courses require a prerequisite (like Art 2, Ceramics and Intermediate Theatre) Students should not choose the same class multiple times Schedule changes are difficult to manage, so students need to choose classes they would be happiest taking If students don't get their top choices next year, they can try again the following year.
MATHEMATICS Mathematics 750000 The content focus for this course includes four critical areas of mathematic foundational skill: (1) proportional relationships; (2) operations with rational numbers, expressions, and linear equations; (3) scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and problems involving use of area, surface area, and volume: (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples. Successful mastery of the key concepts in this core math course will enable students to continue on a college and career ready path for math skill.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS English Language Arts 7 45050 The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) adopted by Utah in November 2010 will serve as the core for this class. The CCSS English Language Arts standards include college and career ready skills for writing, reading, speaking and listening. Successful mastery of the key concepts in this course will enable students to continue on a college- and career-ready path.
SCIENCE Integrated Science 7 STEM30530 Seventh grade integrated science focuses on the theme of “structure.” The standards to be taught relate to matter, structure of earth’s crust and interior, structure of cells and organisms, reproduction and heredity of organisms, and classification schemes. SOCIAL STUDIES Utah Studies 7 60000 This course is designed to help students understand Utah’s early history and Utah from statehood to the present. Students will review the interaction between Utah’s geography and its inhabitants, as well as the formative contributions of Native Americans, explorers, and Utah pioneers. HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

TA/Patriot TimeAdvisory08700 Advisory at Eastmont Middle School is a class students are assigned to in which school business is taken care of. Citizenship and character education lessons are taught during the TA period. TA is held on Monday and Wednesday. Patriot Time is a concept mastery period in which students have the opportunity to have concepts retaught for mastery level learning. Students are assigned to concept mastery or have the opportunity to attend a tutorial or stretch learning activity. Patriot Time is held on Tuesday and Thursday.
ELECTIVE CLASSES
MUSICA participation or instrument rental fee may be required. At the instructor’s discretion, rehearsals and performances outside of class time may be included as part of the course requirements and constitute a portion of the grade.
Band 1 Brass13075 This is a beginning band class offered for students who wish to learn the trumpet, baritone, euphonium, or trombone. No experience necessary; practice outside of class time and instrument required. The school has a limited number of baritone, euphoniums and trombones available for rent.
Band 1 Woodwinds13065 This is a beginning band class offered for students who wish to learn the flute or clarinet. No experience necessary; practice outside of class time and instrument required.
Concert Band 13465Prerequisite: Audition/Instructor Approval This is an intermediate level band course that encourages increased technical and expressive musical proficiency through performance and study of music. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and constitute a portion of the grade. Practice outside of class time and instrument required.
Choir 1 Mixed13255 This class is open to all students. Emphasis will be placed on quality vocal production, part-singing, and music reading skills. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and will constitute a portion of the grade.
Orchestra 1 13025 This class is for students who would like to learn to play a violin, viola, cello, or string bass. No experience necessary; practice outside of class time required. Instrument required. Violas, cellos, and basses may be rented from the school at a nominal fee.
Orchestra 2 13035 Prerequisite: Instructor approval This is an intermediate-level orchestra class focusing on intermediate-level literature for orchestra. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time are part of the course requirement and will constitute a portion of the grade. Practice outside of class time and instrument required.
Guitar 1 13305 This course provides opportunities for students to develop their musical potential and aesthetic understanding through learning to play a guitar. Emphasis will be placed on: playing position, tone production, fundamental technique, simultaneous playing and singing, reading music, and composing songs/lyrics. Knowledge and skills will include experiences in singing, playing, listening, and connecting to cultures. Practice outside of class time and instrument required.
THEATRE At the instructor’s discretion rehearsals and performances outside of class time may be included as part of the course requirements and constitute a portion of the grade.
Beginning Theatre16005 This is an introductory course in theatre with an emphasis on performance. No previous experience is necessary. The course will include pantomime, improvisation, monologues, characterization, scenes from plays, and play reading.
Intermediate Theatre16015 Prerequisite: Instructor approval This is an intermediate course in theatre with an emphasis on performance. The course will include improvisation, scenes from plays, playwriting, play production, and an overview of the history of theatre, TV, and film. VISUAL ARTS Fees may be required for art courses
Art Foundations 1 10265 Art Foundations 1 provides an overview of visual arts while studying a broad variety of art tools and materials. With an emphasis on studio production, this course is designed to develop higher-level thinking, art related technology skills, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics.
Art Foundations 2 10275 Prerequisite: Art Foundations 1 or Instructor approval Art Foundations 2 provides an overview and introduction to visual arts through studying a variety of art tools and materials. This course builds on Foundations 1 with a more in-depth experience with fewer art forms. This course is designed to develop higher-level thinking, art-related technology skills, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics, with an emphasis on studio production.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION A lab fee may be required.
Manufacturing Technology 80025 This hands-on class has the same goals as Exploring Technology, but focuses specifically on engineering design, manufacturing, transportation and construction technologies. Some of the activities the students will focus on include: machine and tool safety, the research and design process, engineering drafting using computers, CO2 Dragsters, housing construction and codes, and woodworking/manufacturing. There will be a strong focus on Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering, and Mathematics(STEAM).
FACS Exploration A – Interior Design/Sewing/Textiles Emphasis 87085 This course focuses on developing skills in interior design and care of a home as wells as developing skills in clothing construction and style. Finances and the basics of free enterprise will be taught.
FACS Exploration B – Foods/ Child Care/Interpersonal Relations Emphasis87095 This course allows students to develop skills in food and nutrition, childcare and safety, consumerism, family relationships, personal responsibility, and job-related skills.
WORLD LANGUAGE Spanish 1 A 41905 No Prerequisite By the end of Spanish 1A, you can say, understand, read and write many basic, memorized Spanish words and phrases. You will be able to talk about yourself, your family and friends. You will be able to describe activities and things that you like and dislike. You will learn about Hispanic cultures in the context of real-world communication, and how learning to be socially appropriate in the Spanish language ties you to a global community of the Spanish-speaking world.

Debate16455 This course is designed to introduce students to debate, analysis, reasoning, delivery skills, organization, writing techniques, and research. The course also provides opportunities for impromptu speaking, original oratory, extemproaneous speaking, Lincoln-Douglas debate and student congress. This class will require additional time for competitions outside of school.
Reading 7 _ 45025 School Recommended. This course is designed for students who have been identified as requiring intensive instruction in reading skills. This course will focus on intervention strategies that will assist students with literary, informational, and functional texts. This class will also include vocabulary instruction, fluency instruction and practice, and for those in need phonics intervention.
AVID 7 (Advancement Via Individual Determination)03475 School Recommended/Student applied for. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) teaches skills and behaviors for academic success such as organization, planning and study habits. AVID prepares students to take advanced classes such as honors and AP classes. Students will be referred to the AVID elective class by their teacher or students/parents can apply for the class.
